Comprehensive Testing

The Cardio Wellness Center is one of the few centers in the area that offers such a comprehensive risk screening. In addition to the traditional lab testing, some other tests that may be recommended and/or ordered to further assess your risk include:

Our CT scanner, with leading-edge technology, can detect the amount of calcified plaque in coronary arteries.  As plaque build-up increases, arteries become narrowed.  Blood has a harder time squeezing through, which increases your heart attack risk.  This 15-minute test is non-invasive, painless, and fast – and could save your life.

Ankle-Brachial Index Test (ABI)

One-third of people who have heart plaque also have plaque in their legs.  This non-invasive, painless test lasts 15-minutes and screens for peripheral vascular disease (PVD) or plaque in leg arteries.  It measures blood pressure at the ankle and in the arm at rest and after completing toe raises.

Sleep Study

This test analyzes what happens to your body during sleep. It determines if you have sleep apnea and/or restless leg syndrome. We recommend/order this test if you have signs and symptoms of sleep apnea (snore, wake up tired and unrefreshed, fall asleep easily when sedentary, witnessed stopping breathing during sleep). Sleep apnea leads to high blood pressure and heart disease.

Abdominal Sonogram

This simple, non-invasive test is to determine if you have a “fatty liver”. This is the test that utilizes a ball with gel on it, which is rubbed over your abdomen area where your liver is located to assess for liver abnormalities. Fatty liver is easily treatable by exercise, modifying diet and weight loss.

This blood test detects if you have vulnerable lesions (plaques) in your arteries. These lesions may erupt and cause a heart event; thus, early detection is life saving.

Comprehensive Blood Work

We offer advanced laboratory tests for more precise diagnosis and development of better treatment plans. For your initial blood tests, we might request that these be done approximately 7-10 days before your initial appointment.   Learn more.

Information about lab work:

  1. You do not need an appointment to get labs done at a Saint Luke’s facility – your orders will be automatically entered into the chart/ordering system
  2. Please be fasting 12 hours prior to getting labs drawn
  3. You can call Lab Services at 816-932-3850 for hours and locations

Return appointments you can have the option of having labs done prior or fasting the day of your return appointment.

Body Composition Assessment

In just a few minutes, our body composition scanner – the only one of its kind in the region – can identify visceral fat tucked away deep in the abdomen, which is hard to spot and especially hazardous to heart health.  Our scanner produces an image with bones, muscle, and fat highlighted in different colors.

Nutritional Consultation

Our registered dietitian can teach you to make meal choices that minimize your odds of developing heart disease and other nutrition-related conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Take Your Health to Heart
Once you identify and treat risk factors, you can cut your risk for a first or second heart attack by 30-50%
