Laura Amos, Nurse Practitioner

LAURA AMOS, APRN, FNP-C

Cardio Wellness Center’s (CWC) newest Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Nurse Practitioner, was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri.  She was exposed at a young age to the profession of nursing, as her mother has been a practicing nurse for over 40 years at Saint Luke’s Hospital. Laura grew up looking at her mother’s medical textbooks asking mom if she could read to her the diagnosis underneath the pictures. Laura was fascinated with the human body and as she grew older, developed a passion for preventive medicine. Her first Bachelor’s degree was in Psychology, which evidently healthcare professionals use daily, and then she pursued an accelerated Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from William Jewell College.

Laura began her career at Saint Luke’s Mid-America Heart Institute in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit where she quickly learned in-depth knowledge of cardiovascular disease and developed her nursing skills, especially critical thinking. She then transitioned to become the Saint Luke’s Cardiovascular Consultants weekend Rounding Nurse, helping to coordinate the hospital services for the cardiologist at all the area locations.  Due to her love of education, she knew she wanted to learn more and become a Nurse Practitioner, specifically to practice in the field of Cardiology. She attended the University of Central Missouri graduating in December 2017 with a Master’s degree in Nursing and became a certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

While obtaining her nursing degrees, she decided to stay busy by having two beautiful children. Wyatt is 8-years-old and Scarlett is 4-years-old. They are the light of her life and they enjoy playing outdoors and board game competitions! Now that she has some free time after graduating, Laura loves to exercise, especially running and yoga.  She also enjoys reading, cooking, and traveling. “I am honored to be part of the Cardio Wellness Center, which is a unique and inspirational preventative cardiology program. Being able to work and train with Dr Becky Captain and Dr James O’Keefe, has been a dream come true. We have an exceptional team in the CWC and I am learning from the best. I look forward to working with all of our patient’s to achieve and motivate them towards their best state of health”.
